The profile of the institute of education focus on the issues and research on: general pedagogics, Disability and inclusion,
generations and educations, as well as research on migration and racism. Further there is several individual research, which
demonstrate the key points of the curricula of the different study fields.
Basic for the research and teaching activities of the institute of education is the methodological approach of criticism. The
debate of social conditions of difference and inequality is determined by the interest, to evaluate pedagogical fields and acts,
which allows or denies
people to act in a dignified way. The term of capability to act is related to conditions, for the concepts and discourses of
disability, generation, culture but also race and class.
The institute owes regional, national but also international networks and aims to employ excellent researchers and teachers.
Research and teaching is determined by a broad variety of subjects and theoretical approaches targeting the development
of critical and reflective acting.
The Institute aims to promote the Scientific exchange on new approaches and international exchange on best practice as
well as their Adaption to the Austrian context. In this way contribute to the scientific and practical further development of
intercultural youth work.
Erol Yildiz is professor for migration and education at the university of Innsbruck. He is Director of the “Research Center for
Migration and Globalization” at the University of Innsbruck. His research areas are: Critical Migration Research;

Anita Rotter (PhD) holds a doctorate in education and educational science. From 2018 to September 2023, she is a
research associate at the Institute of Educational Science, University of Innsbruck. In teaching and research, she focuses on
postmigrant perspectives, generation, family, and biographical research. In her PhD project (Rotter 2023), Rotter focuses on
the intergenerational articulation of biographical and familial narratives and experiences by the postmigrant generation. In
2023, she is conducting research as part of a fellowship program at the University of London. Anita Rotter already worked in
a Ministry-funded Sparkling Science project (2017-2018) on “Faces of Migration. Tyrolean young people tell their familial
